Charlie Skien will perform at Bergenfest, Friday 14th of june 2025!
Musician, songwriter, and vocalist Andreas Høvseth’s distinctive, bass-heavy voice, first gained recognition through the Skien-band Verdensrommet and later as part of the supergroup Softcore untd. Although he now is regarded as a promising new rising star under the alias Charlie Skien, he is no newcomer to the Bergen music scene. Since Verdensrommet's debut release in 2012, he has contributed to over 20 releases as a band member, solo artist, or guest artist, that have earned awards and acclaim from the press, industry, and audience alike.
In 2024, he cemented his position as one of the hottest names on the Norwegian indie pop scene and achieved his major breakthrough as a solo artist with the album “Det gjør ikke vondt” (It Doesn't Hurt). Through poignant and brutally honest lyrics, he sings about "the tough times" and compellingly captures how life's great pains unfold on crooked paths. Andreas does not shy away from touching on themes from the challenging period in his life but has now emerged both sober and victorious on the other side.
In a 2018 interview, he stated that Charlie Skien was still "a work in progress," but with this album, it’s safe to say that he has finally found his place. After a brief detour into the R&B genre, he has now charted a course toward a more rock-oriented sound, evoking the rawness and energy of bands like The Strokes. The lowest point has been reached and overcome. Now, Charlie Skien is reaching for the stars!
