Fontaines D.C. will perform at Bergenfest 2024 Wednesday, June 12!
The Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. had their breakthrough in 2019 with "Dogrel," their critically acclaimed debut album, which captures the essence of a rain-soaked Dublin—a mood many in Bergen undoubtedly can relate to. Since then, they have reached the top charts in both their home country and the United Kingdom, established themselves as festival favorites, and released three albums in three years. In many ways, they can be regarded as the biggest musical export from Dublin since U2.
‘Skinty Fia,’ the title of their much-anticipated third album, translates to “the damnation of the deer.”, a reference to the extinct Irish giant deer, but as bassist Conor Deegan III points out: “‘Skinty Fia’ is also used as an expletive, in the way you’d say ‘For fuck’s sake’ if you bang your arm on a table or whatever.” The band continues to explore their Irish identity, this time from a distant perspective, after relocating from Dublin to London: "We really tried to hold on to the things that made us Irish. There’s a sentimentality of sitting in an Irish pub in London, surrounded by other Irish people and it’s 4am, the lights are going off and half-remembering these old songs. On the other hand, there’s something dark and a little bit bleak about that." We can't wait to get a taste of Fontaines D.C.'s Dublin City at Bergenfest 2024!
